Accountable Care Organizations

One of the provisions in the Affordable Care Act was the creation of Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs). An ACO is a network of doctors and hospitals that shares responsibility for providing care to patients. While the Affordable Care Act’s focus on ACOs was related to Medicare beneficiaries, ACOs are not limited to caring for patients on Medicare.

ACOs make providers jointly accountable for the health of their patients, giving them strong incentives to cooperate and save money by avoiding unnecessary tests and procedures, and instead focusing on helping participating patients get, and stay, healthy.

Wellfound providers and services participate in several ACOs in the state of Washington.
